Once upon a time...
March 25, 2021, the day of the Annunciation, Venice celebrate its birthday which is exactly 1600 years since the laying of the first stone of the Church of San Giacomo di Rialto, Venice’s oldest church.
March 25, 421 is commonly recognized as the founding day of the City of Venice, as written in the Chronicon Altinate, one of the oldest sources for the history of Venice.
To mark this important milestone, The city government decided to celebrate the city anniversary throughout the year with a number of events which will continue untill at least March 25, 2022, with the goal to highlight the history, the culture and the qualities that have made Venice the unique place it is today.
